Many years ago, I wanted to do something creative. I also wanted it to be something I could possibly make a living at (not art school). So I abandoned a BFA for a degree in Interior Design at the University of Manitoba..
I never became a registered Interior Designer because life got in the way. But, I ended up with a government organization and a multi-disciplinary degree in Environmental Design. There, I managed multi-department tenant improvements and related building issues. Many times with hundreds if not thousands of individuals affected. Believe it or not, losing office space led to death threats in one instance. We also commonly faced the threat of employees quitting their job.
With almost twenty years of managing office, warehouse, lab, and climate-controlled space, I have gained substantial knowledge. I have also consulted with the people that work within these spaces. I know a thing or two about work environments and how we all live within them. And what commonly drives us crazy.
I am not certain that anyone has ever written about this stuff. It is a pretty unique place to sit as both a participant and observer in a workspace. SO here it is – for better or worse- my opinions are my own but I have backed them up with research or white papers written by the design community where possible. You can find links under the resources section of this . Hopefully they will allow you to research solutions to your own situation.
